WASHINGTON DC – Trump Defends His Travel Ban From Europe. US President Donald Trump, on Thursday, defended his decision to impose a 30-day ban on travel from mainland Europe. This was over the coronavirus pandemic that sent markets into a tailspin and sparked panic among stranded travellers.

According to details, Trump’s sweeping travel ban drew an angry response from EU chiefs Ursula von der Leyen. She and Charles Michel rebuked his “unilateral action” and called for cooperation to fight the pandemic. But Trump defended the move, saying Thursday “we had to move quickly. While conceding the measures would have a “a big impact” on the economy.

Yesterday, US suspended all travel from Europe to the US for 30 days. In a televised address, President Trump said the European Union had failed to take the same precautions as the US in fighting the coronavirus. Therefore he announced that he decided strong but necessary actions to protect Americans from the novel coronavirus. The ban will apply only to foreign nationals and not to American citizens. Meanwhile, acting deputy secretary at the Homeland Security Department Ken Cuccinelli in a tweet said that the ban does not apply to ‘citizens or legal permanent residents or their families’.
