UNITED NATIONS – UN Chief Condemns Attacks In Afghanistan. United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, on Monday, has strongly condemned Friday’s deadly attack in Kabul and expressed solidarity with the people of Afghanistan.
According to details, his spokesperson issued a statement. It says “The Secretary-General says that attacks against civilians are unacceptable. The UN stands with all Afghans in solidarity and remains committed to an Afghan-led peace process that will end the conflict.”
More than 30 people were killed when gunmen opened fire during a commemorative event in Kabul. Country’s Chief Executive, Abdullah Abdullah, and former President Hamid Karzai were attending the event.
UN Special Representative for Afghanistan, Tadamichi Yamamoto, also condemned the attack in the strongest terms. Yamamoto also heads the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
UNAMA human rights officers have documented several previous attacks deliberately carried out against these communities. They are also looking into the incident to establish additional facts, including the group responsible. UN Chief Condemns Attacks In Afghanistan.
A statement from the mission said as follows. “Attacks directed against Afghanistan’s civilian population, including religious or ethnic minorities, are serious violations of international humanitarian law and may amount to war crimes. When committed, such acts may also constitute crimes against humanity.”
