RIYADH – Saudi Arabia Suspends Prayers In Two Holy Mosques. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on Friday, has suspended the holding of daily prayers and the Friday prayers inside the two Holy mosques in Mecca and Medina. These two are the most sacred sites in Islam.

According to details, this comes as a part of the Kingdom’s measure to limit the spread of the Novel Coronavirus COVID-19. The Spokesperson for the General Presidency for the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque, Hani bin Hosni Haider said the following. “The Presidency and the security and health authorities decided to suspend the prayers in the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque. Starting tomorrow, Friday, as part of precautionary and preventive measures to prevent the spread of the Novel Coronavirus.”

Earlier this week, the kingdom suspended daily prayers inside all mosques of the kingdom. Stepping up its efforts against the Novel Coronavirus COVID-19. The official Saudi press agency announced this decision of the council of senior scholars. Mosques will be temporarily close for the five daily prayers as well as the weekly Friday prayers. However, mosques would continue to issue Azaan.

Saudi Arabia has reported 171 coronavirus cases, but no deaths so far. The Kingdom has shut down cinemas, malls and restaurants. Along with halting flights and suspending the year-round umrah pilgrimage in a bid to contain the deadly virus. Saudi Arabia Suspends Prayers In Two Holy Mosques.

More than 1,000 cases of the virus have been recorded so far across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). On Monday last week, Bahrain reported the first death from the disease among GCC states.
