Rights Activists Pledge On Defending Social Media Freedom

ISLAMABAD: Rights Activists, legal advisors, writers, lawmakers speaking to various political groups at a meeting held in Islamabad on Wed­nesday communicated the res­olve to oppose and challe­nge government move to res­trict web based (social media) freedom.

They requested survey of rules confined under the Prevention of Electronic Crime Act 2016 and appro­ved an announcement expressing that such “dark laws won’t just stain Pakistan’s picture all inclusive, however will likewise usurp the constitutional right of individuals of Pakistan ensured in Article 19 of the Constitution”.

The individuals who talked at the meeting included one of the leading human rights activists I.A. Rehman, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed and Tahir Bizenjo, former senator Farhatullah Babar, veteran writers Muhammad Ziaud­din,Imtiaz Alam, Hussain Naqi, Senator Pervez Rashid, Abid Saqi of Pakistan Bar Council, senior anchor-person Hamid Mir, Haris Khalique of Human Rights Commission of Pakis­tan, Senator Jehanzeb Jama­l­dini, Sadaf Khan of Media Matters for Democracy and Chaudhry Shafiq of PCHR.
