Quetta Gladiators Win The Opening PSL Fixture

Karachi- Quetta Gladiators secured a win playing Islamabad United on Thursday 20 February 2020. Team Gladiators kicked off their PSL campaign with a stunning team effort.  Muhammad Hasnain bowled well and Azam Khan played his role in the second innings when Gladiators started the chase of the total set by United.

It was Azam Khan’s only second T20 game. Azam, the 21-year old son of Pakistan National Team’s ex-captain and Quetta Gladiators head coach Moin Khan scored 59 runs. He played a brilliant innings and displayed a great show of power-hitting. He rescued his side from a precarious 26-3. He hit five fours and three sixes during his 33-ball knock. He added 62 in 40 deliveries with captain Sarfraz Ahmed (21) and 40 in 18 with Mohammad Nawaz (23 off 13).

Prior, a staggering spell by pacer Mohammad Hasnain put Islamabad United on the back foot from the beginning of their innings. His fearsome pace and calculated length presented to him a game dominating take of 4-25 and the Man of the Match grant .  Sarfraz stuck to his formula of bowling first upon winning the toss.

David Malan gave United the start they needed but the team couldn’t really keep up with the initial momentum. Quetta Gladiators kept striking in quick intervals to restrict United from scoring as big as the start indicated.

The blooper on the first night of the PSL came during the exact moment wad of the second half when umpire Faisal Afridi denoted his PSL debut by not pronouncing Jason Roy out, just to discover his decision toppled after Islamabad captain Shadab Khan requested a review.
