RIYADH – Mosques Closed In Saudi Arabia Over Coronavirus. Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, suspended daily prayers inside all mosques of the kingdom. Only the two holy mosques in Mecca and Medina are somewhat operational. This comes as the kingdom steps up its efforts against the Novel Coronavirus COVID-19.

According to details, the official Saudi press agency announced this decision of the council of senior scholars. Mosques will be temporarily close for the five daily prayers as well as the weekly Friday prayers. However, mosques would continue to issue Azaan.

Saudi Arabia has reported 171 coronavirus cases, but no deaths so far. The Kingdom has shut down cinemas, malls and restaurants, halted flights and suspended the year-round umrah pilgrimage in a bid to contain the deadly virus. Mosques Closed In Saudi Arabia Over Coronavirus.

More than 1,000 cases of the virus have been recorded so far across the six nations of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). On Monday, Bahrain’s health ministry said a woman had died from the coronavirus, the first death from the disease among GCC states.
