NEW YORK – Kashmir Solidarity Rally At New York’s Time Square. A large number of Kashmiri, Pakistani, and Sikh demonstrated in New York City’s iconic Times Square. The Saturday night rally condemned India’s annexation of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to details, Kashmiri-American Council organised the demonstration. It was the part of multiple activities planned in regards with Kashmir Solidarity Day.

Large number of protestors condemned India’s human rights violations in Kashmir. They also called on the international community to play its role in the implementation of UN resolutions that pledged their right of self-determination.

Waving banners and shouting slogans, the demonstrators condemned India’s action in revoking the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. They also voiced support and solidarity with the Kashmiri people living under the nearly six-month-long siege. The demonstrators were also carrying flags of Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. Some of the banners read signs like like “Stop Killing Kashmiris,” “End the Siege,” “Wake Up,” “Wake Up: UN,” “Indian forces out of Kashmir” and “Self-determination for Kashmiris”. Speakers at the Kashmir Solidarity Rally called for the Indian government to immediately revoke the illegal actions of August 5. On priority, lift the siege, and enter into peaceful negotiations with Pakistan to resolve the decades-old dispute.

Sardar Sawar Khan, a former member of Azad Kashmir Council was also present at the Kashmir Solidarity Rally. He thanked the government of Pakistan for its strong and consistent support it has extended to the people of Kashmir. He called for national unity at this critical time in Kashmir. Other speakers included Sikh activist Sardar Amarjit Singh, Kashmiri activist Amna Taj and Khalid Awan of PPP. They all were present at Kashmir Solidarity Rally.
