A governor in northeastern Somalia has been killed in a suicide bomb attack asserted by the al-Shabab outfitted group, as indicated by police and medical sources.

Abdisalan Hassan Hersi, governor of Nugaal, capitulated to his injuries in the wake of being rushed to emergency in the hospital in Garowe, the capital of Puntland where the attack happened on Sunday..

“The doctors tried to save the governor’s life, yet shockingly he died from his wounds,” Mohamed Weli, a cop in Puntland, revealed to AFP news office by telephone. “He was in a critical condition when he was admitted to emergency clinic,” he added..

A source at the emergency clinic said the governor died only half an hour later after he was admitted to the emergency ward.

“He was severely injured in the impact, and he had minimal possibility of enduring such wounds,” the source told AFP.

An ex-police officer and a non military personnel were also injured in the blast and were being treated in emergency clinic, authorities reported on Monday.

Al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-connected outfitted group battling to topple Somalia’s globally recognized government, claimed the attack’s responsibility in an announcement.
