ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan is due to visit Geneva to attend the first ever Global Refugee Forum. Starting on Tuesday, United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and Switzerland. will co-host the forum.

The Global Refugee Forum is the first ever major meeting on refugees in the 21st century. The forum will incite political support and solidarity for refugees. It will also focus on the broaden base of commitments from countries, international organisations. Along with private sector and civil society to deal with the growing number of refugees across the globe. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will also address the forum.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has been invited to co-convene the forum. Along with Turkish President Erdogan, and other leaders from Costa Rica, Ethiopia, and Germany. This opportunity is in recognition of their notable role for the safety and well-being of refugees.

PM Khan will put forward Pakistan’s perspective, experience and contribution to the Afghan Refugees. This invitation of co-convening of the Global Refugee Forum is a recognition of Pakistan’s sacrifice for the people of Afghanistan following the Afghan war in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

Prime Minister Imran Khan will also have different bilateral interactions with his counterparts and the UN leadership.
