Another Earthquake Hits Pakistan

KARACHI – A 5.6 magnitude earthquake has jolted various cities of Pakistan, national media reported on Tuesday.

According to details, a 5.6 magnitude earthquake shook the country. The epicentre of the quake is said to have in Gilgit and it has a depth of 42 kilometres. The earthquake struck the cities of Islamabad, Shangla, Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Mianwali, Peshawar, Kohat, Swat, Chitral, Dir and other places in the Potohar regions.

Soon after the tremors were felt, the people ran outdoors from their homes and offices, in panic, in a bid to save their lives. They were seen chanting Allah hu Akbar, and other prayers. However, no major loss of life and/or property has been reported.

A week earlier, another strong 6.4 magnitude earthquake jolted northern areas of the country. Strong tremors were felt in Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Mansehra and Chitral. It was recorded as the highest ranging earthquake in 2 years. Despite being a high potency earthquake, no loss of life or property was reported then.

 

Pakistan has a very tragic history when it comes to earthquakes. In 2005, Pakistan witnessed the deadliest earth tremor in its history as 80,000 people lost their lives in Azad Kashmir and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The quake destroyed thousands of homes and buildings.
