Assaults in Afghanistan on reconstruction missions have left in excess of 2,200 individuals dead and right around 3,000 injured since 2002. The stats are from an official US report released on Tuesday.
2,124 people were killed outside combat between April 2002 and the end of 2019. 284 Americans were among those killed. The statement was made by John Sopko who happens to be the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction.
The evaluation is the first to concentrate on reconstruction activities alone – reestablishing infrastructure, building emergency clinics and schools, just as military or regular citizen preparing – and not on battle missions against the Taliban or other outfitted groups in the nation.
Afghans endured the most losses, with 131 soldiers and 1,447 citizens loosing their lives as they worked to revamp their nation.
Attacks bounced to record levels in the last quarter of 2019, SIGAR said – even as Washington and the Taliban keep on wrangling over a potential arrangement that would see American soldiers start to leave, as a byproduct of security ensures.
